I’m not really writing a series here–I’m just giving you the stuff Jesus has said to me over the past week concerning this fifth sign given in the gospel of John. He’s so cool. I never knew how little I understood this sign. If you haven’t read them yet, please check out the first three posts on this subject. They’re not long, and they’ll improve your ability to understand this one fully.
I prayed: “Lord, now I see how You have always walked on the waters above the firmament. You came down here, and it was for You nothing at all to walk on the sea. Lord, what is the sea? In this story, what is the sea?”
In this story, the sea represents My domain, which is to say, everything, both that which is made and that which is yet to be made. I will make you all masters of the sea as you come to Me. It may be in this world, as you grow, you will suffer loss, however I too suffered the loss of all things that I might gain you, My Bride. And you must be willing also to lay down all things, even yourselves (as I did) in order to have everything for all eternity. Our way is in every way contradictory to that of the world. This you know, and shall know better the longer you follow it. We are always giving, always pouring ourselves out into one another.
So when you worship, do not ask Me to pour Myself out into you. Rather ask that it be given you to pour out your own spirit before your King. We will always be filling you, but how can we fill that which is already full of itself? Empty yourself, therefore. Give all as We do, without thought of return, but rather for pure love’s sake.
Empty yourselves–give all as I did, not so that I will fill you, but rather only because you love Me. That is pure and unadulterated worship.
I asked, “Lord what does this sign reveal about You? What shall I bring to Your church?”
The sign reveals My divinity. Who but God treads the waves of the sea? My revelation of Myself to the Jewish people was progressive–like Jacob’s stairway to Heaven. (Gen 28:12) Precept upon precept, line upon line. As I said to Nathaniel when he first met Me–‘What if you see Heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man?’ (John 1:51)
John the Baptist bore witness of Me as it was given him to do. He is Elijah–there will yet be another, fuller answer to this prophesy that Elijah must come first, and he shall–to preceed My second advent, but yes, John came in the spirit and power of Elijah, My prophet. And yet another will come–he himself–but that is future.
I also, as Adam, had My opportunity to choose to rely on Myself, not in the garden surrounded by beauty, but in the desert, surrounded by desolation. Did you not wonder how Israel could be called the beautiful land when yours is manifestly a thousand times more generous, lovely, pleasant? Where the beauty was the greatest, the desolation also was the most severe. All things were made opposite by the curse. They will be restored, and those lands most blessed now, though beautiful still, will by comparison fade in the light of the beautiful and blessed land. My land will be the center, the heart, the crown of the whole earth. No one who walks on the pathways there will ever be shamed by the glory of some other distant land. all will be pleasant, all lovely, but not like Jerusalem.
I came for the reversal, the restoration of all things. Do you wonder that I was opposed? And you also shall be bitterly opposed.
The miracle of Cana (turning water to wine) established My coming and My purpose–to take for Myself a bride. It also established My credentials as a prophet. And I did come as a prophet–as The Prophet promised by Moses. (Deut 18:15-19) Water gives life, but wine brings joy. This was the living water with which I fill My vessels, as well as the transformation I work on all of you as you pour yourselves out into Me.
I give restoration to the dying by My mere spoken word, as I will. I speak and it is done. My dying creation–I planted Myself as a seed and brought forth many seeds, which bring a harvest of life. Yet you are a remnant–that which is remaining after the refinement. No one save the true gold will remain, and NONE of the gold will be lost.
A bruised reed I will not break, and the smoking flax I will not put out until I have brought out the whole and complete remnant from the house of Jacob. Not one will be lost. As for you, the not-chosen (that is, not Jewish), you shall be called My own people. You shall be called blessed if you bend to Me and become My bond slaves because of love. You shall be My chosen priesthood, My holy, set-apart ones, My bride. You who were called not-beloved, shall become one with us in giving, in sacrifice, in mutuality, unity, love ever flowing.
I healed the man by the pool of Bethesda, though he did not ask for it. You, the not-yet-chosen in the scope of time (though in eternity you were chosen) did not even know to cry out to Me, but see? I have come to you and I have offered you My restoration contrary to the letter of the law, and also commanded you to take up your bed contrary to the letter. Yet by this is the spirit of the law, which is love, fulfilled. By this also I declared Myself to the legalists as greater than Moses, than the fathers who gave them the Talmud, than the law. I was and am the true fulfillment of the Law in spirit and in truth.
In feeding the people I showed Myself to be the provider of bread, though the deeper truth was one they, in their self-imposed blindness, could not see. My word to them drove them away, but not the remnant. The remnant came to Me because I gave them the words of eternal life–not the bread that perishes, but Myself, the bread that endures to ever-lasting life. I established Myself as both the sustainer and the sustenance of life. Not this poor existence most settle for, but LIFE; pure, unadulterated and undefiled. I AM the life. I AM the bread and the wine. Except you eat of Me, there can be no life in you.
In coming to My disciples walking on the water, I showed to them–to them and no one else, My divinity. They and all who trust in Me had then more than sufficient proof of My ability to give them life. When I gave the words of life that drove many away, they did not leave, nor did any called and chosen by My Father.
My way is always through rough seas, but trust Me. I AM, and I am with you.
